The building of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme was a pivotal event in Australia's history. Not only did it create one of the engineering wonders of the modern world, it also laid the foundations of a uniquely multicultural nation.
Workers from many countries, only recently at war, united to work together in Australia's high country.
In harsh conditions, they built a new future for themselves and for the nation.
Our vision is to celebrate the achievements of the builders and their machines.
