Museum Officially Opens

On Saturday 15th October 2011, the Governor-General of Australia, Quentin Bryce, officially opened the museum at a memorable ceremony attended by over 1000 people.  After a tour by the official party, the museum opened its doors to the public officially.

The museum can be visited on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 2pm or by appointment.  Group/bus bookings are welcome - bookings@snowyschememuseum.com.au.

Official Opening

Saturday 15th October 2011 will finally see the official opening of the museum.  Put this date in your diary now!   The opening ceremony will be open to everyone. We will have a number of dignitaries at the ceremony to officiate the opening.  Invitations will be sent out to all of our 'friends' and supporters in the near future.  We hope to see you there!

New Name, Logo & Website

From now on, the 'Adaminaby Snowy Scheme Collection' will be known as 'Snowy Scheme Museum, Adaminaby'.  This new name better represents the museum and its purpose.  Accompanying our new name, we also have had a new logo designed and have started using this on all correspondence.  In the coming months we will also be redeveloping the website to reflect these new changes and to integrate new technologies.

Museum Previews

The museum will open its doors to the public for special viewings on selected weekends. Please check the website for opening times. If you're in the Adaminaby area, you are welcome to visit!  Feel free to email (curator@snowyschemecollection.com.au) or phone  (02 6454 1116) our curator  to organise a preview.

Saturday 2nd April 2011

Work has been completed on the West Wing and we are beginning to move collection items into position. Over the next few weeks our Entrance Building will have its IT and computer infrastructure installed, which will provide a Point of Sale system, museum catalogue and permit the presentation of historical and current audio and film.

We have recently taken possession of the Snowy Hydro Collection which consists of many exciting items, including the display/control panels from the Snowy Mountains Control Centre.  We hope to take delivery of the Hudson Collection, SMEC Collection and South-East Printing Collection in the near future.

We have reconsidered the official open of the museum and feel that an April opening would be too soon.  It is now proposed that the official opening of the museum will take place in October 2011.  This will coincide with the anniversary of the beginning of the Scheme on the 17th October.  However, we continue to open the museum for previews, so stay tuned for opening times!

Thursday 30th December 2010 - Construction & Fitout Continues

Construction of the buildings is now complete. Work continues on the inside of the Entrance Hallensuring that visitor comfort and experience is of the highest. Due to poor weather conditions and dampness concerns, there has been a delay in laying the concrete floor in the West Wing and placing machinery into the East Wing.

Later this month, we will accepting the Hudson Collection which will be an exciting addition to the museum. We will also be taking delivery of collection items from Snowy Hydro, SMEC and South East Printing.

We are in the final stages of planning the exhibition spaces, so within the next few weeks we should be ready to move heavy machinery and other equipment into place within the East Wing and Entrance Hall and Auditorium.

The East Wing will house items related to life on the construction sites, whereas the West Wing will house life in the office (eg planning, printing, testing, etc).

Saturday 1st January 2011 - Opening Soon!

Although it was originally planned to have the museum opened by the later part of 2010, there have been a number of issues beyond our control that have caused a number of delays.

It is proposed that the official opening of the museum will take place in April 2011. However, it is likely that the museum will open to the public prior to this date. Stay tuned for more information!
