ChairpersonJill Madew
Jill was born in Beirut, Lebanon of British parents and spent her childhood in the Middle East, Mediterranean, South Africa and Brazil. She came to Australia in 1963, a mother and wife of Peter Blackman an Australian Naval Officer whom she had married in the U.K. During her travels Jill learned to speak many languages and is still quite fluent in French, Spanish and Portuguese. She started her working life in Sao Paulo, Brazil working for Air France, and is passionate about Multiculturalism.After moving to Sydney Jill became a Real Estate Agent which she continued when the family moved to Canberra. She became a proud Australian, and returned to the travel industry, later working for Pan Am. On returning to live in Sydney Jill attended the University of NSW and obtained a B.A. majoring in languages.In 1985 Peter and Jill were sent to London, Peter as Naval Advisor to our High Commission. Before leaving they had bought a bush block on the Murrumbidgee and developed a successful Fly Fishing Lodge. Peter died in 1993 and Jill continued with the business. She married David Madew in 1998. David retired from medical practice in 2000 and came to live at The Outpost with Jill. She retired in December 2001 and by the end of March 2002 had her almost full time volunteer job asPresident of the Committee. | |
